Founder Traveller Pride
Champion of LGBTQ+ Rights in Gypsy, Roma, and Traveller Communities
Tyler Hatwell is a trailblazing advocate who founded Traveller Pride, the UK’s first organisation dedicated to supporting LGBTQ+ individuals within Gypsy, Roma, and Traveller (GRT) communities. As a bisexual man from the Showman community, he recognised the double discrimination faced by LGBTQ+ GRT individuals - often unseen in both their own culture and the wider LGBTQ+ movement. In 2019, he launched Traveller Pride, which became a formal organisation in 2021, offering free therapy, a solidarity fund, a helpline, and inclusive events like the Traveller Pride march.
Through his intersectional activism, Tyler has created safe spaces for belonging, visibility, and support, while also challenging stereotypes and discrimination faced by GRT and LGBTQ+ individuals alike. Under his leadership, Traveller Pride became a lifeline for those who have long been marginalised, fostering solidarity, empowerment, and cultural understanding. Beyond Traveller Pride, Tyler is Vice Chair of ACERT, the UK’s oldest Traveller rights organisation focused on education advocacy. His work stands as a testament to the transformative power of grassroots activism, ensuring that every identity is recognised, respected, and celebrated.
