Founder Jack Petchey Foundation
A Champion of Young People’s Potential
Sir Jack Petchey dedicated his life to empowering young people, believing that with the right encouragement, they could achieve anything. From humble beginnings in East London, he overcame early setbacks to become a successful entrepreneur, later using his fortune to invest in the next generation. In 1999, he founded the Jack Petchey Foundation, which has since awarded over £180 million in grants to support young people’s development, confidence, and aspirations.
The Jack Petchey Achievement Award Scheme has recognised over 235,000 young people, celebrating effort and determination rather than just talent. These awards give young people a voice, allowing them to decide how grant money benefits their communities. Beyond awards, the Foundation funds life-changing programmes in leadership, public speaking, volunteering, and environmental action. Sir Jack lived to almost 99 years old, leaving behind an enduring legacy that continues to inspire young people with his motto: “If you think you can, you can!” which continues to inspire generations, ensuring his unwavering belief in young people will shape lives for years to come.
