Founder, Mothers Uncovered
Champion of Maternal Mental Health and Community Support
Maggie Gordon-Walker founded Mothers Uncovered in 2008, creating a vital space for new mothers to share their experiences, reduce isolation, and support each other through peer-led discussions, creative expression, and advocacy. Recognising the emotional challenges of motherhood, including the stigma surrounding postnatal mental health, she built a community where women could speak openly about their struggles without fear of judgment. Since its inception, Mothers Uncovered has supported nearly 3,000 women in Brighton and Hove, empowering mothers to navigate the complexities of early parenthood with confidence.
Maggie’s work has expanded to include specialist support for parents of children with special educational needs (SEND), intergenerational mothering experiences (Three Gen), and maternal healthcare advocacy. She has also championed the concept of matrescence - the process of becoming a mother - advocating for it to be as widely understood as adolescence. Through books, podcasts, and national campaigns, she is reshaping conversations about motherhood, ensuring that maternal mental health is recognised, valued, and prioritised. Her tireless advocacy, networking, and community-led initiatives continue to transform support systems for mothers across the UK.
