Transforming Support for Postpartum Psychosis
Dr. Jessica Heron is a pioneering force in maternal mental health, dedicated to improving the diagnosis, treatment, and recovery of women affected by postpartum psychosis (PP). After leading perinatal mental health research in Birmingham, she founded Action on Postpartum Psychosis (APP) in 2010, the UK’s first and only charity focused on this severe but treatable condition. Under her leadership, APP has transformed awareness, reduced stigma, and provided life-saving support to thousands of women and families.
Through APP, Jessica has spearheaded groundbreaking peer support services, specialist training, and vital research into PP. Her work has directly contributed to a decline in maternal suicides and the expansion of Mother and Baby Units, ensuring women receive care without being separated from their newborns. Thanks to her relentless advocacy, APP now leads the world in responding to postpartum psychosis, offering hope and recovery to those affected.
